Get Help With Rent

Dignity begins with quality housing.

Housing Works helps people in need get rental assistance through Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers, so they have safe, attractive places to call home. We are the sole administrator for this HUD housing assistance program in Deschutes, Jefferson and Crook Counties.

We assist over 1,200 families and individuals who earn 50% or less of the Area Median Income with these monthly rent subsidies.

Successful applicants are awarded a voucher valued at 30 to 49% of Gross Annual Income to use towards rent. The number of vouchers available varies, depending on the amount provided to Housing Works by HUD each year.

Because we receive many more requests for assistance than the number of vouchers available, we place all qualifying applicants on a waiting list.

Looking for Rent Assistance?

Here are the steps and requirements for low-income families or individuals to apply for HUD Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers.

Step 1

Fill out an application form online during the period when the voucher waiting list is open. The Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Waiting List opens for a one-week period each January.

Step 2

If there is sufficient funding to issue additional vouchers, Housing Works will choose names from the waiting list in order of their placement and according to HUD guidelines. The order of the Section 8 HCV Waiting List is determined through a random lottery drawing. Housing Works has a local residency preference for households residing in our jurisdiction.

Assignment of a Housing Choice Voucher is determined solely by the application process described above. Housing Works is an equal opportunity housing provider and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, physical or mental disability, or family status.
