Moving Forward Loan Program

The Moving Forward Loan Program provides micro loans to assist individuals and families below 80% of the area median income in accessing safe affordable housing by providing low barrier rental security deposit loans.

Security Deposit Assistance Loans

Rental security deposit assistance loans are available to voucher holders and residents moving into Housing Works-owned properties only on a first come, first served basis when funding is available. These funds help individuals remove a barrier to the high up-front costs of moving into a rental home. Contact Families Forward to obtain more information about availability of funds.

How It Works:

Qualified renters fill out a loan application.
Loans range up to $1,500 with a 12- to 30-month repayment plan.
Origination fee as follows:

$0 – $500	$25
$501 – $1000	$40
$1001 – $1,500	$60

Are You Eligible?

You must be at least 18 years old or if under 18 be an emancipated minor or have a custodial adult cosigner and, have a valid government-issued photo I.D. card including consular ID.
Loans are available to all vouchers holders under the Housing Works Housing Choice Voucher program, including VASH participants, and residents moving into properties owned by Housing Works only.
Provide proof of Oregon residency (valid Oregon Driver’s License or 1 utility bill or 2 pieces of mail not including magazine subscriptions or shut-off notices) listing current address & provided within 30 days of application.
Provide proof of income or payment ability (Employment, Unemployment Compensation, SSI, TANF, Child Support). All loans require at least 1 full month of income verification prior to date of loan initiation.
Applicant must watch the CFPB videos to Spark Action series, and completed the questionnaire included with the application. A Reasonable Accommodation waiver may apply.
Maximum loan is $1,500.
Payments will be no more than 4% of monthly net income.
Applicant may not have defaulted on any previous Families Forward loans.
Must not be involved in pending or discharged bankruptcy within the past 6 months (exception: Credit Builder Loan may be accessed to begin rebuilding credit within 6 months of a discharge but not if discharge is still pending).

Credit Builder Savings Loans

A creative way to assist households with establishing good credit. By making timely deposits into an account set up by Families Forward you can establish/improve your credit score. This program is available to Housing Works Housing Choice voucher holders only.

How It Works:

Loans are for $200 with a 12‐month installment repayment plan, and an origination fee of $12. No funds are released to the borrower at the time the loan is made.
Instead, every month your timely payment of $16.67 is reported as positive credit activity to credit bureaus.
When you have made all of your payments we return the $200 to you.
