Housing Works and Families Forward presented The Glen Gives and West Bend Property Company with the first annual Golden Key Awards. The presentation of the awards was made at Housing Works’ Board of Commissioners Meeting on January 20th, 2010.
Awarded annually, the Golden Key Awards recognize Housing Works’ and its nonprofit’s, Families Forward, community partners who have contributed significantly to providing housing options and opportunities to Central Oregon residents.
Beverly Murphy, representing The Glen Gives, was on hand to accept the 2009 Golden Key Award for the organization’s commitment to providing a home and a new beginning for vulnerable members of the community. The Glen Gives, a nonprofit made up of members of the Awbrey Glen Golf Club, was recognized for its commitment to providing opportunities and resources for low income families. Through a collaborative partnership with Housing Works and Families Forward, The Glen Gives offers a qualified family the opportunity to stabilize their lives through one year of free rent at a Bend apartment complex. In addition, the family can begin building or rebuilding their assets by participation in a family self-sufficiency program through Housing Works.
Accepting the award for West Bend Property Company LLC was General Manager David Ford. West Bend Property Company was recognized by Housing Works for their commitment to ‘opening the doors’ for change by providing affordable housing opportunities for lower income families in its award-winning NorthWest Crossing community.
West Bend Property Company made a new home in NorthWest Crossing, one of Bend’s premier neighborhoods, available for Housing Works to purchase at an affordable price. The home was placed in the Housing Works’ HomeQuest Ground Lease program. By removing the high land cost from the home buying equation, the NorthWest Crossing home was affordable for a single working mother and her two children to purchase.
