Bend, OR. Housing Works and EPIC Property Management, LLC (EPIC) will begin taking applications on August 13th for Ochoco School Crossing, an affordable apartment community located in Prineville in the newly remodeled Ochoco School at 440 NW Madras Highway. The development will provide Prineville with new affordable housing for 29 households. As an affordable property, income restrictions will apply and rents will be well below market rates.
EPIC will be accepting applications for four days only, selecting qualified tenants through a lottery. The waitlist lottery will ensure that all applicants are given an equal opportunity to obtain an affordable apartment. Pets will be permitted with a pet deposit.
Applications will be accepted Monday, August 13th through Thursday, August 16th between the hours of 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Applications must be hand-delivered to the office of Prairie House at 115 NW Deer Street in Prineville, Oregon. The time that you apply during the open period (August 13th through 16th) does not affect your position on the waitlist, as it will be generated through a lottery process. Late applications will not be accepted.
Many current residents of Prineville walked the halls and sat in the classrooms of this historic building during the 69 years that the school operated. In addition to much-needed affordable housing for individuals and families, Ochoco School Crossing will provide a space for a community recreation center in the former school gym to be run by Crook County Parks and Recreation. A Head Start program, operated by NeighborImpact, began operating in September in the former school cafeteria.
This exciting new multifamily community is being developed by Housing Works, the largest affordable housing provider in Central Oregon, in response to the critical shortage of affordable rental housing in Prineville. Ochoco School Crossing will offer studio, one, two and three bedroom units. The apartment community will offer residents a variety of services and activities through a number of partner agencies.
